Family Creative Learning

WHAT

Family Creative Learning is a workshop series, developed at MIT, for children and parents to learn together — as designers and inventors — through the use of creative technologies.

Learning
Together

As you create together, your family will learn how to support one another in learning from asking questions, giving feedback, and working through challenges.

Engaging in Making

Children and parents engage in design-based activities using creative technologies, Scratch and MaKey MaKey to create projects that they design.

Building Connections

Children and parents connect with other families, by sharing meals from local restaurants, engaging in inter-family activities, and sharing their projects.

Families participate in a series of five 2-hour workshops held in the evenings. Workshops begin with dinner followed by a collaborative design activity using Scratch and MaKey MaKey. With Scratch, people can create their own interactive stories, games, and animations. With MaKey MaKey, families can interface with computers, using everyday objects that conduct electricity (such as fruits or Play-Doh). With Scratch and MaKey MaKey, families learn to not only use new technologies, but also create their own technologies. The workshop series culminates in a showcase night for families to invite friends and share their projects with the community.

The fee for this workshop covers the cost of a MaKey MaKey kit that you will be able to bring home after the workshop and dinner for your family for the 5 evenings. You are not required to pay this fee when you book the workshop. We will contact you by email after registration. When booking this workshop, please enter the number of family members and the ages of your kids in the comment box.
