Our Maker Jam is a place for the community to share knowledge, learn new things, and meet other people interested in making things.

At the Maker Jam, you will find microelectronics, wearables, 3D modeling and printing, virtual reality, drones, and more! We are celebrating technology, education, science, arts, crafts, and creativity and curiosity of all kinds.

Holyoke Media and the Print Shop will be here! Check out the great work they are doing!

There will be something for everyone at this free event. If you’re just getting started or an experienced maker, you’ll find interesting people and projects. All ages are welcome! Workshops are paced for adults and teens; if you are bringing a younger child please be prepared to work with them.

3D Jewelry Design
Learn how to create 3D models with TinkerCAD, an easy-to-use, free tool for creating digital designs that are ready to be 3D printed into physical objects. We will print your designs for you!
Physical Computing with Micro:bit and Hummingbird
Make things come alive with lights, sensors, and motors and a variety of programming languages. We’ll show you how to get started making and programming with the block-based MakeCode as well as JavaScript and Python.

Talks and Demonstrations

A CNC Machine for Aeronautics Education
The AeroForm is a tabletop CNC machine that cuts precision airfoils and other aircraft parts from solid polystyrene foam. Designed and manufactured in the Pioneer Valley, this unique machine brings research-level manufacturing capability to STEM classrooms, research labs, and home workshops. The talk will cover the development of the CNC machine, demonstrate its capabilities, and provide a brief introduction to the science of flight with the construction of a free-flight glider. A lucky participant will get to bring the glider home!
Audio and Video
Use GoPro cameras, record your own podcast, and experiment with green screen video! Learn about what Holyoke Media, our new public access media organization, has to offer!
Sublimation Printing
Make things with the sublimation printer from the Print Shop, our local collaborative workspace that provides community access to commercial printing tools, production and classroom spaces.
Soccer Robots
Program a robotic soccer team! Micro:bit robots are controlled via radio using a computer vision system.
Autonomous Race Cars
Check out race cars powered by Raspberry Pi and machine learning with a Tensorflow neural network and maybe a Deepracer with a reinforcement learning model.
FM Location Service
Determine your geographic location by triangulation of FM radio signals!
Mesh Networks and Sensors
Learn how Particle micro-controllers make it easy to set up a mesh network for monitoring sensors in remote locations.
Tetrix and EV3 Robots
See robots developed by our FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST Lego League teams.
Mokonuma Box
A 3D printed version of the box from the Danganropa anime series powered by a Raspberry Pi Zero.
Drive a Robot with Streaming Video
