NERDS2020 Hackathon

Sun, March 22
9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Do you like to code? Do you want to code? Have you tried to learn to code only to not know how to get started?

Join us on Sunday, March 22nd from 9am – 4pm at the Integrated Sciences Building at UMass Amherst for the NERDS2020 Hackathon!

Programming Mentors will be available on Sunday from 9am to 4pm to support 2-3 groups through the hackathon project:

Group 3: The most advanced group would be given a short list of external APIs and asked to “build something”

Group 2: Adults young and old looking to start coding will be lightly directed through the process of building their first API with Python or JavaScript

Group 1: Kids (ages 8+) interested in programming can explore with Scratch and experiment with some basic Python code

Using JavaScript, Python, and maybe a Raspberry Pi or two, beginner programmers and professionals (ages 8 and up) will have opportunities to learn practical programming skills and participate in building real-world applications with mentors in a group setting.

Come join us for a day of networking, learning, and practical hacking — make new friends, sharpen your skills and develop new ones in a fun and encouraging setting.

Lunch will be provided and the Hackathon is FREE!
